Elvin Bishop was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015 for his work with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Just one year later, he was also added to the ranks of the Blues Hall of Fame in his own right. This year, Elvin was nominated for a Grammy for his latest album, Something Smells Funky Round Here.
On this episode, Terry talks to Elvin about his amazing 50-year-plus career. Elvin talks about his family’s reaction to his decision to pursue music as a career, his induction into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame with the Butterfield Blues Band, protest music in 2019, and his mentors Otis Rush and Little Smokey Smothers.
Terry talks to writer and producer Nick Vallelonga about his Golden Globe-nominated film Green Book. Set in 1962, the film tells the story of Vallelonga’s father Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen) a bouncer from the Bronx who is hired to drive and protect pianist Dr. Don Shirley (Mashershala Ali) on a concert tour from New York to the Deep South. The pair use “The Green Book” to guide them to establishments safe for African-Americans.

“I look at all of the vineyards we own, and all of the individual lots of wines that we make, and the thousands of barrels we have sitting in our cellar and sometimes I think, you gotta be kidding me! After I’ve sufficiently recovered from my daily panic attack, I take off my coat, dig in my heels and take it one barrel at a time. It’s a rewarding job that I love.”
Randy Ullom
Hired by Jess Jackson in 1992 as Winemaker for some of their smaller and international vineyards, Randy was handed his most prestigious assignment in 1997 – Winemaster for Kendall-Jackson Winery.
A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Randy became interested in wine during a three-year stay in Chile, while on sabbatical from college in the early 1970s. His stay inspired a cross-country trek through Chile’s vast wine-growing regions. On his return to the United States, he entered Ohio State University to study crop production with a specialty in Viticulture and Enology and received his degree in 1975.
After six years as a vineyard manager and Winemaker in Ohio and upstate New York, Randy moved to California to become associate Winemaker at De Loach Vineyards in Sonoma County. He was promoted to Winemaker and Vice President in 1991. The wines produced during his tenure were consistent gold medal winners at wine competitions.
Dude looks like a Sherriff from Dodge City..Oversees the growing and creating of 5 Million cases of wine from 35 labels. (check their website below)
His job includes working with wines grown in Sonoma, Chile, Bordeaux, Australia and Italy.

This week, its Terry’s first special of the Christmas season with Serena Ryder. The Canadian hit-maker previews her new album Christmas Kisses, produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin.
“When I was a young girl, I would spend hours upon hours locked away in my room listening and singing to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simon and Chet Baker” shares Ryder. “It’s been a dream of mine to be able to sing an entire album in this style – and also a dream to be able to embrace the spirit of Christmas in a genuinely joyful way.”
The podcast includes four tracks from the new record, including “Christmas Song” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” “White Christmas” and “Blue Christmas”.
The great thing about Serena Ryder’s Christmas Kisses album is that –
she’s done all her homework.
Serena grew up in a family that embraced Christmas and their soundtrack
included Ella, Sarah Vaughn, Nina Simone, and Chet Baker.
Classic singers..all from the jazz world.
So Christmas Kisses worked on two levels for Serena.
One – it allowed her to do her first season album with classic Christmas
songs she’s loved since she was born.
Two – she finally gets to do something she’s long wanted to do – a jazz-influenced
album. I sure hope it’s not the last. She gets IT.
And the last track on the album…Christmas Song was recorded on her iPhone
for her producer, the legend Bob Ezrin as a demo.
Bob liked it so much he put it on the album – as is!!

Earlier this year, the team from Hy’s and Gotham visited with Road 13
Vineyards, the 2018 Canadian Winery of the Year, to craft a proprietary red
wine exclusively for Hy’s of Canada’s three British Columbia restaurants.
Working carefully with Road 13, they created a gorgeous blend that
perfectly compliments Hy’s and Gotham’s menus.
The wine:
named 18-six-18, was added to their wine lists in early December. It’s a
great blend from Road 13’s Blind Creek Vineyard in The Similkameen. 34%
Merlot. 46% Cabernet Sauvignon. 5% Petit Verdot. 15% Malbec

Notes of Cassis, Black fruit. In the mouth, a sense of black pepper, sage,
dark chocolate, anise and more.

In addition, Gotham will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in early 2019

As a Master of Wine, Rhys had tasted thousands of wines, so to ask him to
narrow his recommendations down to a handful is a tough call. It took him a
day or so to really think about his choices but here they are and Rhys
explains why.

Trends – Natural becoming mainstream but worrying trends of sugaring up
wines.

Terry talks to Andy Shauf about his band Foxwarren’s new self-titled album, a record that was more than a decade in the making. Andy shares insights into four songs from the record, including “Your Small Town”, “To Be”, “I’ll Be Alright”, and “Fall Into A Dream.” Plus, Andy provides a few details on his forthcoming solo record due out in late 2019.
