Lisa Fischer RAW Interview

hello

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/211231824″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]
Lisa Fischer is a singer who really gets around. Her life is an endless round of planes, trains, and automobiles, rehearsals and fittings. On tour with the Rolling Stones, Sting, Chris Botti or Nine Inch Nails, her name may not be on the marquee, but she doesn’t care. She’s busy loving every minute of it. It’s easy to see why she works all the time: her astonishing range, her spot-on intonation, her mastery of the stage, the way her tone wraps itself around your heart and won’t let go, the infectious quality of her time feel: these things keep her on top of the list. But it’s the sweetness of her smile, her visible pleasure in watching her bandmates do their stuff, her glamorous-girl-next-door quality that make fans all over the world think she’s their own secret discovery (despite the fact that the YouTube version of her duet with Mick Jagger on ‘Gimme Shelter’ has millions of hits).
The rest of her resume is pretty impressive too: touring, recording, and music making with Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Beyonce, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton, Bobby McFerrin, Alicia Keyes, Lou Reed, Louie Vega, Aretha Franklin, John Scofield, George Benson, Laurie Anderson, Lee Ritenour, Jackie Evancho (and many others). Along with many other top session and backup singers like Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Patti Austin, and Judith Hill, “the greatest artists you’ve never heard of” (but whose voices are instantly recognizable), she’s featured in Morgan Neville’s Oscar and Grammy-winning 2013 documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom. In the wake of the movie’s critical and popular success, opportunities abound. Lisa’s been recruited for new studio projects including Billy Childs’ long-awaited Laura Nyro tribute. Lisa, Darlene, Merry, and Judith sang the National Anthem at the 2014 Rose Bowl. And Lisa’s putting together a brand new band to explore some uncharted territory. She’s on to a new leg of the journey, destination unknown.
When Lisa Fischer won her Grammy for Best Female R&B Performance for her hit single “How Can I Ease the Pain,” in an unlikely tie with Patti LaBelle, she almost missed the chance to take the stage and accept her award. Thrilled and amazed to get the nomination, Lisa heard Patti LaBelle’s name announced and started clapping so hard that she didn’t hear her own name called. Onstage, the two singers hugged and swayed together, caught up in the moment. Because Lisa Fischer didn’t just win a Grammy for her first solo single; she was also one of the backup singers on Ms. LaBelle’s award-winning song ‘Burnin.’
The first person Lisa thanked onstage that night was Luther Vandross. Lisa was a Marvellete when she first auditioned for Luther, who was to become her employer, her mentor, and her champion. She is honored to carry on his legacy, striving for excellence, taking care of business, getting up early, staying up late, showing up on time, letting the music take control, singing her heart out, night after night.

Tom Cochrane Interview – 2014

hello

RAW INTERVIEW HERE:

Tom COCHRANE 2014 RAW
Thomas William Cochrane was born in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, Canada, on May 14, 1953.
His father, Tuck Cochrane, wasn’t just  a bush pilot. He was a flying/exploring legend in Northern Manitoba.
At the age of 11, Tom sold his toy train set…and bought his first guitar!
By the early 1970′s, Tom was performing in coffee houses all across Canada.
Next, he was on the road to Los Angeles, where Cochrane took a job writing original songs for the movies…but unable to find steady money in music…he headed to Toronto, where he drove a taxi. He also found work on cruise ships…hoping to return to music.
After meeting at the “El Mocambo Tavern,” in 1978, Tom Cochrane joined “Red Rider.” He would be the lead singer, and main song writer, for more than 10 years.
Red Rider was also: Ken Greer, Jeff Jones, Peter Boynton and Rob Baker. By 1986, they were “Tom Cochrane & Red Rider.”

TDM and Tom Cochrane-AfricaTDM invited Tom to join him on a World Vision Tour of Somalia, Mozambique  and other war torn countries in Africa. It changed both their lives.
Tom Cochrane would launch his solo career in 1991, with “Life Is A Highway” (#6/1992).
The “Mad, Mad World” album (seen at the top of the story) would sell 6 million copies!
The albums “Ragged Ass Road,” “Songs Of A Circling Spirit,” “X-Ray Sierra” and “No Stranger” would follow.
He and wife Kathleen have 2 daughters, Cody and Evanne. They live in Oakville, Ontario. In the winter, the  Cochranes spend time at his home outside of Austin, Texas.
Tom Cochrane has earned many awards over the years, both for his music and charity work. He has won 7 “Juno” awards, is a member of the “Canadian Music Hall Of Fame,” and officer of the “Order Of Canada,” is an honorary Colonel in the “Royal Canadian Air Force,” and a 2009 inductee onto the “Canadian Walk Of Fame,” among other recognition.
He continues to tour, packing in the crowds, across Canada.
He plays Grey Eagle Resort in Calgary  Feb 20.
Tom’s first Lp in years has just been released..it’s called Take it Home..
We talk his new music, being a Canadian living in Texas, why Austin and not Nashville, why Canadian artists over the years have been able to capture the soul of the American south.

TDM- Discusses Beginning in Radio – Interview 1988

hello

Radio and television personality Terry David Mulligan talks about his early struggles getting into radio. This excerpt was from the television program Conversation filmed in 1988. The interviewer was Lawrence Crosthwaite. The show was directed and produced by John Richardson.

Ziggy Marley Interview

hello

Listen HERE:  Ziggy Marley Interview with TDM
For Ziggy Marley, his latest vehicle of expression the album Fly Rasta, represented a galactic sonic journey .
The trip began in early 2013 with a handwritten note by the six-time Grammy Award winner (with his most recent being the 2014 Best Reggae Album Grammy for Ziggy Marley In Concert).  He sat in his home recording studio, took out a scrap of paper, and began to think about what would become his fifth solo studio album.

The concept was simple: make a record that was true to himself, and expanded the territories of the traditional reggae sound by exploring new musical spaces.   He had brought strands of other genres into his previous albums, but now he was looking further into the musical universe, like the deep-space eye of the Hubble telescope.
Ziggy began work in Spring 2013 and enlisted producer Dave Cooley to join him on the adventure.  Recording began shortly thereafter with the help of friends old and new, including The Melody Makers (sisters Cedella Marley and Sharon Marley, and singer Rica Newell); drummers Stephen Ferrone (Tom Petty), Brian MacLeod (Sheryl Crow), Rock Deadrick (Ben Harper) and Motown’s legendary James Gadson; guitarists Lyle Workman (Sara Bareilles), Takeshi Akimoto (Taj Mahal) and Ian “Beezy” Coleman (Burning Spear); bassists Dave Wilder (Norah Jones), Guy Erez (Karmina), Abraham Laboriel (Paul Simon) and Pablo Stennett (Willie Nelson); and keyboardists Zac Rae (Lana Del Ray), David Palmer (Goo Goo Dolls), George Hughes (Sarah Vaughan), Mike Hyde (Burning Spear) and Brian LeBarton (Beck).FlyRasta
Fly Rasta, scheduled for release April 14,  fulfills Ziggy’s mission by marrying his own distinctive reggae sound with elements of psychedelica, rock, funk, soul and pop, exploring further musical zones with the addition of sitar, tabla and taiko drums.  “I’m looking to push the envelope, to challenge myself,” Ziggy explains.  “ I have always wanted to travel far beyond the realms of expectations.
