Mulligan Stew March 1st 2025- 2 hours of Hand Harvested Hits!

It started with a donor note from the back of an Uber.

Suggested music for a Birthday (Happy bday Graeme)

Some Tom Petty, also The Cash Family, John Mayer and a return to the early days of rock and roll.

  Perfect.

Back-to-back you get

The Coasters Youngblood

Little Richard Lucille

Fats Domino, I’m in love again

That blends nicely with our close look at the Bo Diddley special.

March 2, 1955, Bo Diddley recorded two songs at Chess Studios in Chicago.

One was called Rumba on the tape box. They changed the title to Bo Diddley, and that Bo Diddley rhythm became one of rock’s primary beats.

(It’s really a very old Afro-Cuban 3-2)

So, we’re playing the original and then several hits that used the beat – there are 100’s

Buddy Holly – Not Fade Away

Bruce Springsteen -She’s the One

KT Tunstall – Black Horse and a Cherry Tree

Desire – U2

The Stew welcomes Chrissie Hynde, Allison Russell, Dusty Springfield, Rosanne Cash, Teskey Brothers, Nathaniel Rateliff, Bruce Cockburn, Jeff Healy, Kathleen Edwards, Tami Neilson,.

We salute Memphis producer Willie Mitchell with some Al Green,, followed by The Wood Brothers live.  New music from Keb Mo, Taj Mahal and Ruby Amanfu

Bob Dylan was #1 in 1975 with Blood on the Tracks. I’m playing Tangled up in Blue. Followed by a great short story about Squeeze, The Beatles from Abbey Road and finish with Eric Clapton playing the Bo Diddley Beat on Willie and the Hand Jive.

The Mulligan Stew podcast in an interview with the filmmakers behind Sugarcane. The heartbreaking story of residential schools and their dark shameful history.

Sugarcane is just outside Williams Lake, BC. They also follow the story to Kamloops. Even though it’s regional, it has found its audience everywhere, especially in the USA.

The documentary is nominated for an Oscar.
